The York-Simcoe federal Liberals have gone outside the riding to find their candidate, Toronto resident Judith Moses, an aboriginal who was born on the Six Nations reserve was acclaimed last year by the riding's party members. Ms Moses, 58, said she was encouraged to run by Dr. Carolyn Bennett, the Liberal MP in her home riding of St. Paul's as well as Liberal leader Stephane Dion. She said she was given a choice of several ridings in which to run, but settled on York-Simcoe after a tour of the area. "The first time here I was bowled over by how beautiful it is here, with its lake, rural area and the rich soil. I really liked it," Ms Moses said. "Then I met with the Liberal association here and we really hit it off." She said the fact that the riding also has a First Nations band on Georgina Island wasn't a factor in her choice, but she said she is happy that it is located in the riding. "I was there when I was a little girl and I'm looking forward to going back," she said. Her father, Bob Moses, is a Tuscarora of the Six Nations and her mother, Lee Moses, a Delaware, she said. Educated at at the universities of Guelph and Oxford, Ms Moses has more than 30 years' of government experience leading major policy, legislative and institutional reforms at both the provincial and federal levels. She worked in the cabinet office at Queen's Park where she headed a task force to modernize central agencies. In 2005, she founded her own consulting firm, Judith Moses Consulting. Ms Moses and her husband, Peter Lyman, have four children.
