How long has the riding existed? This is a new riding, roughly encompasses the municipal boundaries of Richmond Hill, created as a result of redistribution and growth in York Region.

Voting patterns: In recent history, the area has swung toward the Liberals. Liberal Bryon Wilfert defeated Conservative Pete Merrifield in 2006 to win his fourth term while Liberal Maurizio Bevilacqua won in York North in 1988 and 1993. He won again the last time around in the new Vaughan riding.

Trivia: The riding exemplifies the Canadian dream for newcomers to Canada: The three major parties' candidates came to Canada as immigrants, put down roots with families and have been successful in their careers. William Lyon Mackenzie King was elected in York North in 1917 and also held the seat from 1921 to 1926.

Issues: Like all other GTA municipalities, Richmond Hill is struggling with growth issues, while at the same time seeking to improve services, particularly public transit.
