| Just hours before the polls close on the 2008 federal election and candidates are wringing their hands in expectation, Richmond Hill incumbent Bryon Wilfert is proof that family comes first, even on this most important of nights. Mr. Wilfert is at the Markham Stouffville Hospital after his mother, who was feeling ill, was rushed to emergency this morning. "Of course the health of my mother is priority right now," Mr. Wilfert said from the hospital. "I am still waiting for some results as to her condition, so I could be here for the rest of the night," he added. The Wilfert campaign has been gearing up for what they hope will be a fifth consecutive victory, which has seen Mr. Wilfert as a Member of Parliament since 1997. And the show will go on with or without Mr. Wilfert, at his post-election banquet at Sheraton Parkway Hotel, a banquet he said should be celebrating a victory. "I have no doubts, to be honest, I think we have identified more Liberal voters than in past elections, so yes I am feeling confident," Mr. Wilfert said late afternoon.
